Village Board of Trustees will hold its next work session on Monday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.

Valley Stream Taxi will be offering free rides to village seniors who are registered to get flu shots on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Hendrickson Park administration building between 9 a.m. and noon. For more information or to schedule a ride, call Valley Stream Taxi at (516) 825-6900.

Holiday Tree Lighting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Hendrickson Administration Building. Santa will be stopping by just after the tree lighting ceremonies, which will begin at 5 p.m., and staying to meet children until 7 p.m. Share cookies and juice with the mayor, trustees and recreation department staff. There will be pencils and note paper for the children to jot down their own special note to Kris Kringle and a mail box for special delivery to the North Pole. Events

Fall Bazaar at the Green Acres Senior Center will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bazaar will feature items created by the seniors in their sewing, knitting and arts and crafts workshops, along with freshly baked goods and other specialties. Money raised goes toward senior citizens programs. The center is located at 400 Flower Road in Mill Brook. For more information call (516) 872-8810.

Energy Options, a panel discussion on wind, solar and nuclear power, will be held at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Southwest Nassau League of Women Voters. Participants will include a nuclear engineer, a wind turbine specialist, a solar homeowner, a solar contractor and Councilman James Darcy representing the Town of Hempstead. The public will be given the opportunity to question this panel of experts on how to obtain and utilize these alternative sources of energy.

Gingerbread House Contest and bake sale hosted by the Valley Stream Historical Society will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and vote for your favorite house as $100 in prizes will be awarded. There will be a decorative icing demonstration by Dorothy Hollman at 2 p.m. The event will take place at the Pagan-Fletcher Restoration, 143 Hendrickson Ave. Admission is free but donations are accepted. Olivet Baptist Church invites everyone to its annual Christmas dinner Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Please call the church office at (516) 825-9462 to make your reservation. There is no charge. The church is located at Dubois Avenue and Locust Street in Valley Stream.

Keynoter Chorale will present a holiday music festival on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church. Admission is free. The chorale will be directed by Charles P. Zipperlen.

North Valley Stream Tree Lighting will take place on Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the triangle at the corner of Dutch Broadway and Corona Avenue. Children from the Howell Road and James A. Dever Schools will perform holiday songs.

Candlelight Tours of the Pagan-Fletcher Restoration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be led by members of the Valley Stream Historical Society. Almost New Book Sale will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until all books are sold. There will be a 90 percent discount on the list price of all books, and a special additional discount of 10 percent off the total purchase with a book sale card.Ê

Three Computer Classes will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6. Internet Basics and Library Databases is from 10 to 11 a.m. Topics include URLs, favorites, history, printing and e-mail basics. A Microsoft Word Basics class is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. followed by Microsoft Excel Basics from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required for the program.

Book Club meets on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the children-s room. The book to be discussed is The Distinguished Guest by Sue Miller.Ê

Children-s Room has a wide variety of programs scheduled for December with children-s librarian Jaclyn Kunz. She will be offering Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Homebound Delivery Service is available to those with a physical disability and are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. Volunteers will deliver books to your home on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk. Live Homework Help is available to library cardholders every day from 2 to 10 p.m. in English and Spanish. Families with young children, and adults seeking to support their studies or improve their math or grammar skills, will all have experts waiting to help on the library-s web site. Caf Time on Friday, Nov. 28 will feature a showing of South Pacific at 12:30 p.m.

Tribute to Ethel Merman will held on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. This is a celebration of the life and times of the Tony and Grammy AwardÐwinner.

Holiday Concert with Lee Knight will be held on Monday, Dec. 1 at 10:15 a.m. It is for children age 6 months through pre-school with participating adult. Enjoy some of your favorite holiday songs in this interactive movement and music program.

Chair Yoga with Mary will be held on Monday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. This is a class suitable for all levels and will help participants learn to listen to their bodies with gentle stretching and breathing.

Tuesday Feature Film for Dec. 2 is A Mighty Heart. The movie begins at 2 p.m. and is rated R.

Young Adult Advisory Group meets on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. Help make a difference at your library.

Holiday Crafts with Nancy Kraft will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 12:30 p.m. Get into the holiday spirit with this two-hour class and make something you can take home for yourself or give as a gift. All materials will be provided free of charge.

Poetry Writing Workshop with Dr. Linda Opyr will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to write poetry and share what they-ve written.

Knitting Club will be held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. This program is open to boys and girls in grades 7-12.

All About Ebay will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. In this lecture and demonstration workshop, you-ll learn how to use eBay, the world-s most popular online auction web site, to buy and sell items. This program is for intermediate and advanced computer users.

SAT Practice Test will be given on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The test will be administered by Kaplan at no fee.
Intermediate Bridge Classes with Mimi are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner-s class: you must have experience in playing the game in order to take the class.


Schools

Central High School District Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in the board room at Memorial Junior High School. The next regular business meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. in the MJHS cafeteria.

District 13 Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. in the board room at the Dever School. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. at Dever.

District 24 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. followed by the regular business meeting at 8:30 p.m. Meetings are at the William L. Buck School.

District 30 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Monday, Dec. 15 and its next regular business meeting on Monday, Dec. 22. Both meetings will be held at 8 p.m. in the Shaw Avenue School Library.

Memorial Junior High School Drama Club will present A Bagful of Fables on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial cafeteria. All tickets are $7 during pre-sale starting Nov. 24 at the school-s main office and at the door prior to the performance. Gold Card holders are invited to attend either performance for free. A Meet the Cast reception immediately follows the Dec. 6 performance.

James A. Dever School will host a holiday craft fair and boutique on Saturday Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be more than 45 vendors, with unique crafts and new items for your holiday shopping. Health

Health Assessments with nurse June Friedel will be held at the Elmont Memorial Library on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. She will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring. She will also be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling.

Cancer Support Group will meet on Monday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. in Franklin Hospital-s Greenberg Conference Room. It is open to all survivors and their family members. Discussion include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. For more information call (516) 256-6397.

Look Good, Feel Better is a program to teach women how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. It will be held on Franklin Hospital-s Shankman Auditorium on Monday, Dec. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Professional cosmetologists will teach special techniques to minimize the effects of skin changes and hair loss. Community Education Program on asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hosted by Franklin Hospital-s Respiratory Therapy staff, is held every Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room R37 of the hospital-s radiology department. It is an open forum so participants can come anytime during the program. The discussion will review prevention, care and treatment of asthma and COPD, covering all ages. Insurance Representatives are available at Franklin Hospital the first and third Thursday of each month from 5 to 8 p.m. at the admitting department.
