Valley Stream Taxi will be offering free rides to village seniors who are registered to get flu shots on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Hendrickson Park administration building between 9 a.m. and noon. Christmas Craft Fair at Blessed Sacrament Church will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will take place in McKeon Hall at 201 N. Fall Bazaar at the Green Acres Senior Center will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bazaar will feature items created by the seniors in their sewing, knitting and arts and crafts workshops, along with freshly baked goods and other specialties. Gingerbread House Contest and bake sale hosted by the Valley Stream Historical Society will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come and vote for your favorite house as $100 in prizes will be awarded. Homebound Delivery Service is available to those with a physical disability and are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. Volunteers will deliver books to your home on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk. District 13 Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. in the board room at the James A. Dever School. The next regular business meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. at the Howell Road School.
District 24 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. followed by the regular business meeting at 8:30 p.m. at the William L. Buck School on Horton Avenue.
District 30 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Monday, Nov. 17. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 24. Both meetings are at 8 p.m. in the Shaw Avenue School library.
Valley Stream School Districts will have a joint Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the board room at Memorial Junior High School. It is anticipated that the Boards may move into executive session to discuss clerical negotiations.
"The Wiz" is coming to the Valley Stream Central High School stage. Performances will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Keller Auditorium. "The Wiz" is the soulful musical adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. All tickets are $10 during pre-sale and at the door; however, Gold Card-carrying members are invited to the Nov. 20 performance for free.
North High School Drama Club will present the musical "Oliver!" on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the school's cafetorium. Tickets, available at the door, are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Senior citizens with a Gold Card will be admitted free to the Saturday performance only. The musical is loosely based on the novel "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens.
Kindergarten Registration for students entering the Howell Road School in September 2009 will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 19. Registration hours are 9 to 11 a.m. for last names A-L and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for last names M-Z. Children who are legal residents of District 13, and will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2008, are eligible to register. Molloy College, in collaboration with FEGS Health and Human Services System and other community partners, will host a seminar, "End of Life Care: Fostering an Interdisciplinary Team Approach," on Friday, Nov. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference will provide an opportunity for health and human service professionals to explore the key issues in end-of-life, or palliative, care. It will enable attendees to develop greater confidence in the practice of palliative care in their own clinical areas and in multi-professional teams.
