One of the first voters in Valley Stream on Tuesday was herself a candidate for Hempstead's Third District council seat, Democrat Eleanor Sciglibaglio, seen here casting her ballot. In spite of an excellent campaign, Ms. Sciglibaglio was defeated by Republican Jim Darcy. Unofficial results reported on Tuesday night showed Mr. Darcy with 23,819 votes to Ms. Sciglibaglio's 20,932. Voters throughout Valley Stream went to the polls on Tuesday to choose a President, Vice President, U.S. senator, state senator, member of congress, state assemblyman, judges and Town of Hempstead council member. See next week's Herald for complete local election coverage, including an analysis of how the newly constituted Hempstead town board may affect residents in Valley Stream, North Valley Stream and neighboring communities.
