Valley Stream’s Boy Scouts move up in rank

Scouts in Troop 116 walked past their friends and family at the Holy Name of Mary School gym to receive the merit badges they have been working towards, and advance in rank at the troop’s Court of Honor ceremony on April 15.

As part of the event, 15 boys received Scout Rank advancement badges, 12 received Second Class rank advancement badges, three received First Class rank advancement badges, two became Life Scouts and Jordan Officer became a Tenderfoot. Troop leaders also rewarded the boys’ with more than 100 merit badges, and welcomed 20 new scouts into the troop.

Committee Chairman Patrick Burke closed out the ceremony by discussing the work it takes to advance in the Scouts.

“This is the first award ceremony we have had since November,” Burke told the Herald, “and their hard work shows.”
