According to Nassau County police, two local women, Catherine Scalia, 38, of Rockville Centre, and Rose Skorgy, 34, of Merrick, ran a prostitution business from their small camper-turned-hot dog stand in the lot of the Raay-Nor's Cabin restaurant on Sunrise Highway, near Rockwood Avenue. A representative from N.C.P.D. said, "As far as we know, Raay-Nor's Cabin had nothing to do with what was going on inside the stand."
According to Deputy Inspector Rick Capece, commanding officer of Nassau County's narcotics and vice squads, detectives began watching the stand last week after receiving a tip. On Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m., an undercover officer approached the stand and asked for a hot dog. Scalia then offered to expose her breasts for money, and Skorgy offered oral sex in exchange for money, police said.
Police were uncertain as to when the duo first opened their shop in Baldwin, but the camper had been legally registered to Scalia for months. The trailer was littered with ketchup packets, empty snack bags and cans of soda. A makeshift bed, covered with stains, was set up in the rear of the vehicle.
"We've never seen hot dogs mixed with prostitution before," Capece said. "It's out there - the most unusual thing I've seen."
Representatives of two local businesses said they didn't notice anything illegal. "They just seemed to be selling hot dogs," said one man, who asked that neither his name nor the name of his store be used.
Scalia and Skorgy were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 30.
