Merrick American Legion Post 1282 hosted the event.
A number of veterans, who served in war and at peace, were on hand, along with elected leaders and Boy Scouts.
Veterans Day is celebrated annually on Nov. 11. Originally, it was known as Armistice Day, to mark the end of World War I. On May 26, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a measure into law proclaiming the holiday Veterans Day to recognize the contributions of all veterans.
