Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Movies at the Pool
"Bedtime Stories" will be shown in the children's interactive play area on Monday, July 20 at 8:30 p.m.
Community Band
The Valley Stream Community Band will hold its next performance of the year on Tuesday, July 21 at 8 p.m. at the John Smith Band Shell. The New York Elks Lodge will perform a flag ceremony.
Summer concert series
The Cascades will perform at the John Smith Band Shell on Wednesday, July 22 at 8 p.m. The rain date is July 24.
District symphony orchestra
The Central High School District's symphony orchestra performs every Thursday through July 30, at 8 p.m. at the John Smith Band Shell.
Learn to swim
Children's swimming lessons will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, July 27-Aug. 19, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 28-Aug. 20. Each session contains eight lessons and are available to children age 18 months to 12 years. The cost is $40.

Young adult programs
A teen skit night will be held on Friday, July 17. Prizes will be awarded for the best performances. A video games night takes place on Friday, July 24. A writing night will be held on Friday, July 31. A guest author will work with teens on creative writing projects. All programs are for students in grades 6-12 and begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Book Review
Children in grades 3-4 are invited to discuss "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo on Wednesday, July 29 at 4 p.m. Stop by the library to pick up a copy to read.
The Review Crew
Children in grades 5-6 will read and discuss "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E.L. Konigsburg on Thursday, July 30 at 4 p.m. Stop by the library to pick up a copy.
Reader's Theatre
Children in grades 3-6 are invited to share literature by reading aloud and performing scripts of popular children's stories. The children will participate in theater games, be assigned roles and rehearse scripts with their group, with a brief performance at the end of each session. The program meets on Thursdays July 16, 23, 30, Aug. 13 and 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Light up your life
Teens will make colorful lamp designs on Thursday, July 16 at 6 p.m. Create these designs using paper and permanent markers, then attach it to the exterior surface of the provided lamp.
Game day
Adults are invited for a fun-filled afternoon of board games on Friday, July 17 at 1 p.m. Bring your own or play one of the library's - bridge, scrabble, chess and more are available.
Chair Yoga

Family Pre-School Hour
The theme for Tuesday, July 21 is "Big Fish." Times are 10:15, 11:30 a.m. and a special tots night out at 7 p.m. The program is for children 18 months through those entering pre-school. Enjoy singing, dancing, storytelling and a craft.

"The Old Man and the Sea" will be shown on July 21 at 2 p.m. The movie is not rated.
All about high school
Incoming freshman are invited to come learn the myths and facts about high school on Wednesday, July 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Parents are welcome for the second part of the talk.
Photo workshop
Stu Gershon will introduce Picasa 3 and the wonderful world of online digital photo support and sharing on Wednesday, July 22 at 7 p.m.

Franklin Hospital and Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, July 21 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital's Shankman Auditorium. A blood drive will be held at G.W. Hewlett High School on Wednesday, July 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the yoga room. Summer months create a critical shortage of blood supplies on Long Island. Donors must be at least 17 years old and 110 pounds.
