Valley Stream Then and Now, a photo slide show, will be presented by the Valley Stream Historical Society on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. It will be held at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall at Brooklyn Avenue and Seventh Street. Car, Truck and Bike Show will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Valley Stream pool parking lot. The event is sponsored by the Valley Stream Lions Club and all money goes to charity. Admission is free and there will be food, raffles and an awards ceremony.
Antique Doll Exhibit will be presented by Valley Stream Historical Society on Sunday, Sept. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. Share your favorite doll and have it evaluated. There will also be a presentation of Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls. John LaBarbera Golf Outing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m. at the Douglaston Golf Course. This is the third annual event to honor the late John LaBarbera. The per player cost of $125 includes 18 holes of golf, parking, snack on the course and post-golf lunch at the American Legion Hall in Valley Stream. The lunch-only option is $35. Thrivent Sponsored Fall Fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rockaway and Dubois avenues. There will be baskets, fall and Christmas items, White Elefant items, jewelry, clothing, baked good and raffles. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Homebound Delivery Service is available to those with a physical disability and are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. Volunteers will deliver books to your home on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis or as needed. All you need to do is to complete a short application form at the adult reference desk. Registration Has Begun for the Drumthwacket and Princeton Tour fall bus trip on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The first stop Princeton, N.J., starting with a buffet lunch at the Nassau Inn. The trip then heads to Drumthwacket for a guided tour of the governor's mansion. The bus leaves at 8:15 a.m. and the cost is $87.

Free Breast Cancer Screenings will be available on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The Nassau University Medical Center mammography van will be at the Elmont Memorial Library from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Screenings will be offered to women 40 and older with no out-of-pocket cost and will include a breast examination by a nurse, a mammography and instructions for breast self-examination. Health Assessments will be held on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Elmont Memorial Library. Nurse June Friedel will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring. Annual Community Health Fair hosted by Franklin Hospital and Orzac will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year's theme is "Feeling Great in 2008." There will be many informational exhibits on health education and prevention including stroke and cancer awareness, medication safety, epilepsy, wound care, nutrition and adult day health care.
