Summer Reading Bookmark Contest for children in pre-K through sixth grade has begun. This yearÕs theme for the contest is ÒCatch the Reading Bug!Ó There will be a winner for each grade and winning bookmarks will be reproduced for distribution at the library throughout the summer. All entries must be submitted to the by Friday, June 6 for consideration. Winners will be honored at an award ceremony of Monday, June 30 at 4 p.m. Stop by the childrenÕs room for an entry form.
Young Adult Games Night will be held on Friday, May 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Teens will play board games, participate in a team scavenger hunt and more. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams.
Three Computer Classes will be held on Saturday, June 7. The first class on Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Some of the topics that will be covered include URLs, favorites, history, printing and useful databases. A Microsoft Word Basics class is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Topics include tables and word shortcuts. A Microsoft Excel Basics class is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This will be an introductory class covering how spreadsheets are set up, page display and grids. Registration is required for the program.
Young Adult FatherÕs Day Crafts Night is scheduled for Friday, June 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Teens will be painting picture frames and making other crafts for dad.
Valley Stream Book Club next meets on Tuesday, June 24, 7 p.m. in the childrenÕs room at the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library. The book to be discussed is ÒDisobedienceÓ by Jane Hamilton.Ê
Homebound Delivery Service is offered to those who have a physical disability and are unable to visit the library. Volunteers will deliver books to your home on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis or as needed. All you need to do is to complete a short application form at the adult reference desk to determine reading needs and delivery schedule.
