The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library is offering MyLibraryDV, a new on-demand video download service to it patrons for a six-month trial basis. Patrons will have 24/7 access to hundreds of hours of great video programming, including lifestyle, health, travel, cooking, movies, and more. Patrons must go to the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library¹s website at http://www.nassaulibrary.org/valleyst/ to install the download manager. Then they can click on the MyLibraryDV desktop icon to launch the player and browse through the titles listed in the Channel Guide. Up to 10 programs can be downloaded at any given time as long as you have space on your computer, and each program has a 7-day checkout period. Scholarship fund-raiser The Elmont Memorial Library Board of Trustees and the BroadHollow Theatre Group want to raise money for four college scholarships two for graduating students from Elmont Memorial High School and two for students from Sewanhaka High School. Tickets to a live performance of Learner & Loewe¹s My Fair Lady are $23, with proceeds earmarked for the scholarships. Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee is now taking applications for the 2007 Scholarship Award. The Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce has established a $1,000 award to be presented to a senior graduating this June who resides in the Village of Valley Stream and attends any public, private or parochial high school and plans on continuing their education at a post-secondary academic or vocational institution during the Fall term after graduation. The selection of the winner will be determined by providing an essay of no more than two pages, typed and double spaced. The essay must express the candidate's thoughts on the following theme: If you were a business owner in Valley Stream, what steps would you take, if any, to improve the business community? All applications must be signed by the candidate's guidance counselor verifying that he/she attends the listed high school and resides in Valley Stream. Annual Camporee will be held on the Valley Stream Village Green, adjacent to the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library, from June 8 to 10. The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Ventures and Girl Scouts will all be participating, and this year¹s program will be distributed in the form of a journal. The journal will contain all necessary scheduling and events for the weekend. Anyone who wants to support the Camporee by placing an ad in the journal can send a check payable to the V.S. Cancer support group meets monthly at Franklin Hospital to offer support to all cancer survivors and their family members. The next meeting will be held on Monday, July 2 at 2 p.m. in the hospital¹s Greenberg Conference Room. The group meets regularly the first Monday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support.
