Part-Time Bus Driver Needed The Valley Stream Recreation Dept. is looking for a part-time bus driver for the senior citizen program. A commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required. If you require any further information, contact Barbara Diglio at (516) 825-8570.

Valley Stream Book Club Meets at Library The Valley Stream Book Club will meet in the Children's Room on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 7-8:15 p.m., and the book for discussion will be The Country of the Pointed Firs, by Sarah Orne Jewett. Registration is required to attend the meeting so the library can try to reserve a copy of the book for each participant. Stop by the Adult Reference Desk as soon as possible to register for the meeting. Old Valley Stream Book Club members and new participants are welcome.                                       Computer Instruction Classes Offered At Library The Library is offering two computer instruction classes at the library in September. These classes, conducted by the Assistant Director Mamie Eng, are demonstration and lecture only. The Microsoft Word Class will be held on Saturday, September 30, from 10-11:30 a.m. The Internet Basics and Library Databases Class will follow from 11:45-12:45 p.m.Registration is required for all classes as space is limited for all classes. Preference will be given to Valley Stream library cardholders.  You must register and present your library card at the Adult Reference Desk. Library Board Meeting The Board of Trustees of the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m. An open forum on the library's public internet policy for the Children's Room will be held at the start of the meeting.  All members of the public are invited to attend. Ring bell at the Children's Room Entrance for admittance.

SEPTA meeting The Valley Stream Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) has scheduled a meeting on Monday, September 18, 7 p.m. in the Memorial JHS Cafeteria. Memorial JHS is located at 320 Fletcher Avenue. The evening program will include presentations by chairpersons from the elementary school districts followed by a question and answer period. SEPTA services all of the Valley Stream schools. New SEPTA parents are cordially invited.


District 13 Committee Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. at the BOE Conference Room at James A. Dever School. A regular meeting will be held on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. at Dever.


Valley Stream Central High School Alumni Association Scholarship Foundation Annual Meeting and Dinner Dance will be held Oct. 7 at Malverne American Legion Post #44, 250 Franklin Avenue from 7 to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $33 per person. All classes of alumni are invited. A full course dinner and music by Andy Masters will be present. Reservations by Sept. 23, no admissions at the door. The association will also meet on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 pm in the Central High School Chorus Room, 135 Fletcher Ave.in Valley Stream. A video-tape tour of Central High School is on sale for $20. Grace United Methodist Church will be having a two-day homecoming celebration on Sept. 16 and 17. On Sept. 16 there will be a block party on West Fairview Avenue with games, music, and food for the whole family from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Sept. 17, former pastor Robert Howard will be guest preacher at a service beginning at 10 a.m.


Holy Name of Mary Church will be holding adult bible study classes for six weeks starting on Sept. 20. Registration is on Sept. 20 at 7:45 p.m. in the cafeteria or Room 6 of Holy name of Mary School on East Jamaica Avenue, or on Sept. 21 at 9:45 a.m. in the Outreach House. Sign-up costs $15. Valley Stream Religious Council is a group of clergy who represent the many faiths and denominations in town. It meets regularly to discuss the common concerns of the community. Program of Peninsula Counseling Center is forming new groups for bulimia and compulsive over-eating.
