Children's Programs Bouncing Babies, a special program with story, lap games, and play and play for toddlers, ages 12-23 months (requires parental/caregiver participation), will be held on Wednesday, June 21,at 10:30 a.m. Limited to 15 participants in each session. Tiny Tots, a special program with story, rhymes, and play for toddlers, ages 24-35 months (requires parental/caregiver participation),will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. Limited to 15 participants in each session. Totally Tykes, a program of stories, rhymes, and play for children, ages 36-47 months (parent/caregiver attendance is optional), will be held on Monday, June 19, at 2 p.m. Limited to 18 participants in each session. Alphabet Soup, a program for children, ages 3-6, to celebrate the alphabet with activities, crafts, and stories (requires parental/caregiver participation), is scheduled for Monday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. Limited to 23 participants in each session. Kinder Kids, a program with stories, play, and activity for children, ages 4-5 years, will be held on Thursday June 22, at 2 p.m. Limited to 18 participants in each session. Check Mates, a game time for children in grades 3-6, to play popular board games such as Chutes and Ladders, Scrabble, Monopoly, etc, is scheduled for Thursdays, June 8 and 22, at 4:15 p.m. Limited to 24 children. Picnic Basket Books is being offered for children of all ages who are unable to attend our weekday programs, and is scheduled for Saturday, June 24, at noon. Bring lunch and a blanket to sit on. The library will provide stories and a treat. Mom's Morning Out sessions are scheduled for Fridays, June 16 and 30, at 11 a.m. Moms will have the opportunity to meet informally while their children play with games, blocks, or look at books. New library books and media will be on display. No registration required! Bedtime Books, an evening story time for children, ages 3-8, and their parents, is scheduled for Thursday, June 15 at 7 p.m. Pajamas are optional; bring your favorite stuffed toy. Snuggly Stories, an evening story time for children, ages 12-35 months, and their parents, will be held on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m. Two Father's Day Story Craft programs are scheduled. Father's Day Story Craft for children in grades 3-6 will be held on Monday, June 12, at 4:15 p.m. Father's Day Story Craft Junior for children in grades K-2 on Wednesday, June 14, at 4:15 p.m. Join us for our Story Snack Breaks on Wednesdays, June 14 and 28, at 11:30 a.m. This program is for children, ages 12-35 months, and will be held outdoors when the weather permits. Registration is required for all programs (approximately two weeks in advance), with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders. Registration for each program begins approximately two weeks before each event. Summer Reading Club Bookmark Contest Children in grades K-6 are invited to draw an original bookmark for the club with the theme "Books: A Treasure." All bookmark entries must be returned to the library by Friday, June 9, for consideration. Teen Talent Show in August 2006. If you are in grades 7-12, you are invited to audition for the show.  Can you dance? Can you sing? Juggle? Or tell jokes? The first audition date is set for Saturday, June 17, at 2 p.m. You must register in advance to audition!

Computer Instruction Classes on Saturday, June 17. These classes, conducted by the Assistant Director Mamie Eng, are demonstration and lecture only. The Microsoft Word Class will be held from 10-11:30 a.m., and will cover a variety of topics and tips for using Microsoft Word. The Internet Basics and Library Databases Class will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  This class covers Internet basics, e-mail, etc., and will focus on current events and news databases. Registration is required for all classes as space is limited for all classes.  Preference will be given to Valley Stream library cardholders. Summer Reading Club

Registration begins on Monday, June 19. The Skippers Read-to-Me Reading Club will be for children who are not reading independently. The First Mates Reading Club is for children who are reading on their own. The Buccaneers Young Adult Summer Reading Club is for students going into Grades 7-12. A variety of programs and activities are planned for children and teens throughout the summer. Be sure to register to be part of the fun! Book Club to meet in the Children's Room on Tuesday, June 27, from 7-8:15 p.m., and the book for discussion will be "The Kite Runner," by Khaled Hosseini. Registration is required to attend the meeting so the library can try to reserve a copy of the book for each participant.
