April Children's Programs Tiny Tales, a special story and play time designed especially for children ages 12-23 months, on Wednesdays April 12 and 26, at 10:30 a.m. This program requires parental/caregiver participation. Limited to 12 participants in each session. Mother Goose Time, a special story and play time designed especially for children ages 24-35 months, on Mondays April 10 and 24, at 10:30 a.m. This program requires parental/caregiver participation. Limited to 12 participants in each session. Alphabet Soup, a program for children, ages 3-6, to celebrate the alphabet with activities, crafts, and stories, Wednesday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m., and Tuesday, April 18, at 2 p.m. This program requires parental/caregiver participation.    Limited to 18 participants in each session. Saturday Story Times are being offered for children who are unable to attend our weekday programs. Saturday Story I for children, ages 1-2, is planned for Saturday, April 8, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday Story Time II for children, ages 3-5, is planned for Saturday, April 8, at 11:15 a.m. Bedtime Books, an evening story time for children, ages 3-8, and their parents, on Thursday, April 8, at 7 p.m. Pajamas are optional; bring your favorite stuffed toy. Check Mates is a game time for children in Grades 3-6. Children will be able to play popular board games such as Chutes and Ladders, Scrabble, Monopoly, etc. The next Check Mates is scheduled for Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m. Limited to 24 children. At Mom's Morning Out, moms will have the opportunity to meet informally while their children play with games, blocks, or look at books. New library books and media will be on display. Mom's Morning Out sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays, April 11 and April 25, at 11 a.m. National Library Week Programs - Make Your Own Spring Book Craft is for children in Grades K-2 on April 3, at 4:15 p.m. and the Ultimate Library Scavenger Hunt is for children in Grades 3-6 on Friday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. Easter Craft Programs - Easter Craft Workshop I for children in Grades 1-3 on Friday, April 14, at 11 a.m. Easter Craft Workshop II for children in Grades 4-6 on Thursday, April 13, at 11 a.m. April Showers Crafts for children in Grades 1-6 on Monday, April 17, at 11 a.m. Circle Games for children in Grades K-2 on Wednesday, April 19,11 a.m. Registration is required for all programs approximately two weeks in advance with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders. V.S. Book Club to meet in the children's room on Tuesday, April 4, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. "Amagansett," by Mark Mills will be discussed. This book discussion will be led by Joanne Bergbom and is part of the Long Island Reads program being observed throughout Long Island. Teen Poetry Contest The library is holding its 4th annual Teen Poetry Contest as part of the observance of National Poetry Week. Contestants must be in grades 6-12. Poem entries must be original works by the contestants. The theme for this year's poetry contest is "Books : A Treasure."Poems must be submitted to Assistant Director Ms. Eng by Monday, April 3, at 4 p.m. for consideration. All entries become the property of the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library.


Tax Aide for Seniors on Tuesdays, through Tuesday, April 11. Help will be available on a first come, first serve basis, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring you W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements and a copy of your 2004 tax return.


Children's Chalk Art Show on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m.  (Raindate: Saturday, April 29) Children of all ages will be able to draw chalk pictures on the walkway between the library and the Village Hall. Certificates of Participation and prizes will be awarded to all children. Light refreshments and lots of fun! Registration is required, with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders.
