Members Sought for Valley Stream Cultural Affairs in 2006. Village and Central High School District residents are invited to join for a new year of fun, educational and unique bus trips. Most trips are one-day (weekday) adventures. Join by March 1 for $5. After March 1 it's $10. Applications available at Village Hall, Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

February Children's Programs at the library. Tiny Tales is a story and play time designed especially for children who are between 1 and 2 years old. This program requires parental/caregiver participation. Tiny Tales will be held on Mondays, Feb. 13 and 27 at 10:30 a.m. Limited to 12 participants in each session; proof of age and a valid library card are required for registration. Mother Goose Time is a special story and play time designed especially for children between 2 and 3 years old.  This program requires parental/caregiver participation. Mother Goose Times will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 1 and 15 at 10:30 a.m. Limited to 12 participants in each session; proof of age and a valid library card are required for registration. Nursery Times is a story and play time for children who are between 3 and 4 years old. This program requires parental/caregiver participation. Nursery Times will be held on Tuesdays, Jan. 31, Feb. 14 and 28 at 1:30 p.m. Limited to 12 participants in each session. Pre-K Playtime is a program for children enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten that includes story, song, and play, designed to introduce children to the library and to the joy of reading. Limited to 18 participants in each session. Pre-K Playtime is planned for Thursdays, Feb. 2 and 16 at 1:30 p.m. Saturday Story Times are being offered for children who are unable to attend our weekday programs. Saturday Story Time I is for children, ages 1-2, and is set for Saturday, Feb. 4, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday Storytime II is for children, ages 3-5, and is set for Feb. 4, 1t 11:15 a.m. and Feb. 25, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday Storytime III is for children, ages 6-8, and is set for Feb. 11 at 10:15 a.m. Check Mates is a game time for children in grades 4-6. Children will be able to play popular board games such as Chutes and Ladders, Scrabble, Monopoly, etc. It is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 9, at 4:15 p.m. Valentines Day Kids Workshops are story and craft programs offer to school age children. Workshop I, for children in grades 1-2, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 4:15 p.m. Workshop II, for children is grades 3-6, on Monday, Feb. 13, at 4:15 p.m. Bedtime Books is an evening storytime for children, ages 3-8, and their parents, on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Kinder Krafts is a program of stories and crafts for kindergartners featuring language arts, storytime and fun activities, on Monday, Feb. 6, at 4:15 p.m. Mom's Morning Out, a new program, is an informal opportunity for moms to meet while their children play and read, on Tuesdays, Feb. 14 and 28 at 11 a.m. Black History Month Story Time and Craft is for children in Grades 1-6 and will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 11:00 a.m.Registration is required for all programs (approximately two weeks in advance), with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders. Computer Classes on Saturday, Feb. 18, A Microsoft Word Basics Class, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and an Internet Basics and Library Database class, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.


President's Day Closing on Monday, Feb. 20. The library will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. Plan accordingly.


Tax Aide for Seniors on Tuesdays, starting Feb. 7 through Tuesday, April 11. Help will be available on a first come, first serve basis, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring you W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements and a copy of your 2004 tax return.


V.S. Book Club to meet in the children's room on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway will be discussed. Call Mamie Eng, assistant director, at the library for more info or stop by to register for the program and reserve a copy of the book.
