Village campaign season starts

Mayor Eugene Murray, a member of the Home Rule Party, is seeking his fifth term. The Concerned Citizens Party did not nominate anyone to run against him, but those interested in running for any of the positions have until May 13 to file a nominating petition at Village Hall, 1 College Place.
Trustee seats held by Wayne Lipton and Jack Matthews, both Home Rule Party members, are also open. Lipton will seek re-election to a second term, but Matthews will not. Home Rule chose Jim Sutton to run in Matthews' place.
The Concerned Citizens named Rockville Centre Library Board Trustee Elizabeth Krol and Robert Weaver as its candidates. Krol has announced that she will not seek re-election to the library board when her term expires this year.
Judge Robert C. Williams was cross-endorsed by the parties.
We continue to support incumbents Mayor Murray, Trustee Lipton and Justice Williams, and are pleased to announce the addition of Jim Sutton to round out the ticket, said Home Rule President Kevin Akner.
Lipton said he is looking forward to continuing the long list of village improvements that were made during the last four years. He is a senior vice president of a national health-care company, a graduate of Harvard and a former member of the Rockville Centre Planning Board.
Sutton is new to the Home Rule team. He is a founding member of the St. Agnes Father's Club and has been a coach in the RVC Soccer Club, RVC Little League, BBL and CYO Basketball. Sutton is a certified public accountant and the chief operating officer of a digital technology company. He served as a member of the Finance Committee of Catholic Charities.
I want to help keep this community a great place for our children and for all of us, he said.
There are already two Concerned Citizens on the board, Mary Bossart and Greg Rinn. When he announced the party's slate on April 10, President Bud Cosgrove, a former trustee, said the Concerned Citizens never take mundane issues for granted.
Krol has lived in Rockville Centre for over 18 years and served on the library board for 10. She holds bachelor's degrees in English and economics from Mt. Saint Vincent's College in Riverdale. I'm very honored to have this opportunity, she said. I love this town.
Robert Weaver moved to Rockville Centre because his wife grew up in the village and there was nowhere else we wanted to raise our children, he said. Weaver has served as the finance committee chair for the St. Agnes School Board and works as an attorney for Roslyn Savings Bank. He said he has a commitment to community.
