For more than a decade, the Rec Center staff has welcomed community groups and law enforcement officials to spend the day talking with the village's youth during its annual Kids Fest.
During this day of free fun, the children will be allowed to climb on tanks, try on police helmets and watch firefighters show off some of their lifesaving skills. There will also be games, an obstacle course and pony rides. For the first time, a DJ will be providing music for the event.
Inside the Rec, organizations like the post office, library and Guild for the Arts will be set up at booths with information on their fall activities. Another big group of participants is the village sports clubs.
The Rockville Centre Basketball League will be holding registration for the fall season and representatives from the soccer and lacrosse leagues will be there too.
Gino's Pizzeria will be giving away Italian ices, and there will be popcorn as well.
Anthony Brunetta, superintendent of parks and recreation, said the Kids Fest is designed to introduce families to the Rec Center and make them aware of all the services offered in the village.
The fest runs from noon to 4 p.m. and there is no registration required.
