Mayor Ed Fare gave a special title to Valley Stream Historical Society member and honorary trustee James Buckley at the board’s meeting on Sept. 15. Fare, the organization’s chairman of the board, announced Buckley’s new designation:
“Some people have search engines – Google, Wikipedia – I have my ‘Jim Buckley app,’ which is basically ‘ask Jim.’ Based upon his time and dedication and his philosophy of doing things the right way, I am bestowing a brand new title on our friend Mr. Buckley here. It’s my pleasure to make James Buckley chairman emeritus of the Valley Stream Historical Society.”
Buckley, a 1941 graduate of Central High School, and his wife Anita raised six children in Valley Stream, where he worked for the Hendrickson Bros. construction company for 38 years. His membership in the Society spans three decades, serving as chairman of the board for half that time. He also served as curator and record keeper until he recently resigned from those roles.
