Culley Furniture 8, V.S. Kiwanis 13
In a tough battle by both teams, Kiwanis emerged victorious in the regular season closer. Starter John Labeck and reliever Andrew Bock were the stars of the game, striking out some of Culley's biggest bats and keeping a powerful lineup to 8 runs. Once again proving that defense wins ballgames, the Kiwanis gloves came up with every ball. Notable defensive players were Nick Russo, Dan Conlon, Mike Fisch and Steve Aleksis. Lead off man J.C. "Crazy Legs" Mendoza was on base all day giving the Culley pitchers something to think about, and Andy Labeck (2 for 2 and a walk) continues to hit the ball hard in clutch situations. The game was won in the first inning when, with bases loaded, Greg Rositano and Franco Palma hit back-to-back doubles. The Boys in Blue never looked back. This team is clearly ready to do some big things in the tournament.

V.S. Kiwanis defeats V.S. Lions
The first game of the tournament started out a nail-biter, a real pitchers duel between Anthony Pranzo for Kiwanis and David "Insert-Nickname-Here" Zito. Leading 3-2 after two innings, the Kiwanis bats came alive in the third with every player reaching base in the inning. Dan Conlon and Andy Labeck each had 2 hits in the inning and all the guys hit the ball sharply all day. Nick Russo was right on the ball, fouling several off in the direction of Lions' coach Nick Danisi. Once again defense proved to be the name of the game, as the hot gloves of J.J Iburg, Mike Daly, Mike Fisch and especially Andrew Bock saved the day. John "Eagle Eye" Labeck, having walked in his previous 7 at bats, finally got a pitch to hit fair for a hard ugly base hit. This Kiwanis team showed that they really are something special, with big hits, strong gloves and smiles all day long. Every one of the boys continues to show up ready to play whatever position is asked. It has been a privilege to be around such a fine group of young men who truly understand what Little League is about. Hats of to a terrific Lions Club team that played hard right to the end. All the players on both teams are a credit to the League, their coaches, and most importantly their parents.
