A Valley Stream woman was part of a team honored recently for their efforts at raising breast cancer awareness through auctions of bras that have been turned into works of art.

Michelle Lamberson and her team were honored by Long Island Business News for their work with the Adelphi N.Y. Statewide Breast Cancer Program’s Creative Cups endeavor. The team received a Health Care Hero Award for informing the local community about the disease and the services that are available to patients.

Creative Cups is a bi-annual fundraiser that auctions off bras that have been decorated.

“We have found this to be an exciting and upbeat way to raise awareness,” said Hillary Rutter, director of the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program. “And in the process, we raise significant funds to do our work.”

The next Creative Cups auction will be held on March 16, 2017. Registration will begin in February 2016. To register, visit www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer.
