Valley Stream UFSD 13 recently concluded its 2025 Summer Recreation Program at Wheeler Avenue School, hosting 346 students entering kindergarten through seventh grade.

The program provided a variety of indoor and outdoor activities designed to engage and connect students across the district.

“Our Summer Recreation Program truly exemplifies the heart of the Valley Stream UFSD 13 community,” Amanda King, Summer School Principal, said. “ It allows students to engage in experiences that foster student connection with grade-level peers across the district. It has been such a pleasure to be a part of such a meaningful program and an absolute joy watching our students grow.”

A team consisting of a Summer School Principal, Secretary, Building Director, Assistant Directors, Counselors, Junior Counselors and volunteers managed the program throughout the summer.

Participants took part in local field trips to San-Dee Lanes bowling alley and Bee’s Arts and Crafts Studio in Malverne, as well as enjoyed in-house events including Movie Fridays and Bouncer Buddies. Weekly themed activities featured Summer Spirit Week, Tournament Week and Sprinkler Wednesdays, with Marino Ices providing treats every Thursday.

The program concluded with a Summer Showcase, DJ Party, and Carnival that brought together the Valley Stream community for a day of art, music, dancing, face painting and cotton candy.

Valley Stream UFSD 13 expressed gratitude to all staff, families and community members who helped make the summer successful and plans to continue the program in future years.
