Seven-year-old Lynbrook resident Christopher Ambrosio — and crew — participated in the sixth annual National Hemophilia Foundation “Walk Along the River” on June 5 at Riverside Park in New York City.
Christopher, who is going into second-grade at West End elementary school, suffers from the rare blood disorder, and has participated for the last five years in the walk that raises money for hemophilia. He was joined by family and friends, “Christopher’s Crew,” during the walk. This year, the fundraising goal was $10,000, but the group surpassed that with a total of more than $15,500.
As reported in the Herald’s May 5 issue, “Do you believe in superheroes,” Christopher has hemophilia, a rare disorder does not allow for his blood to clot. He was born without factor 8, an essential anti-hemophilic factor for blood coagulation. “This is something he will not grow out of, but will continue to be a great challenge for him,” said his parents. Kelly is a registered nurse, and Danny is works with the Vulcan Chemical and Hose Company in Lynbrook. They give treatments to Christopher daily.
“We would like to thank everyone who helped Christopher’s Crew pass our goal,” said Kelly “Words cannot express our sincere gratitude for everyone’s kindness and generosity. We are truly blessed to have such amazing family, friends, and community. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
Nearly at total of $200,000 was raised for the National Hemophilia Foundation.
