The event benefits Long Island Cares, which helps feeds the hungry and homeless, as well as Christa House, a hospice for the terminally ill in Babylon.
A final figure on the amount raised wasn't available at press time. Last year, Mepham raised roughly $4,000 with a nearly equal number of students taking part.
Dawn Leavy and Amy Kilgallin, members of the girls' cross-country team, served as student chairwomen for the event, which the Students Against Destructive Decisions club organized. Barbara Gai, a health teacher, is the SADD adviser.
