The event begins at 11:00 a.m. in Wantagh Park. "We expect around 300 people," says Candace Stabile MS' event coordinator. "Petland Discounts is sponsoring the event. And Best Paw Forward will put on a demonstration. It's really cute. They bring their graduates...it's like a recital for dogs. People love it! "The day is really all about the dogs. It's very festive. People come and see each other's dogs, find other dogs of their breed, have conversations and make new friends. Then the parade starts and it's a hoot to watch. "The parade takes place down by the marina, so it's set against a beautiful backdrop. There's a one mile route for short-legged dogs and a two mile route for the long-legged dogs. Of course, all the dogs must be on leashes. And we request just one dog per human. "It's just an incredible sight to see hundreds of dogs and their owners walking together to help in the fight against multiple sclerosis. For many, this is their first time in such an event and it's often difficult for us to tell who is enjoying it more, the people or their pets." The day also features a festival-like atmosphere complete with music, raffles, contests, an exhibit area with product give-a-ways and vendors. Fresh water is provided for thirsty canines. Come out, have a good time, and help The Long Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. MS is a potentially devastating neurological disease that typically strikes young adults between 20 and 40 years of age. All money raised from the MS Pooch Parade helps to fund on going MS research and the more than 60 programs and services offered to Long Islanders with MS and their families. Last year over $50,000 was raised.
