West Point Concert Band performs in Valley Stream this weekend

The renowned band joins forces with the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band for an international musical celebration

West Point Band
The West Point Concert Band performs alongside the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band during an inspired evening of music-making with an international flair. The West Point Band’s Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Keene, conducts with Colonel Akira Takeda, conductor of the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band. The program features music of John Williams, including songs from Superman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, as well as “Summon the Heroes” and “Sound the Bells.” Also hear themes from Danny Elfman’s Spiderman and Michael Giacchino’s The Incredibles. The concert will close with patriotic favorites “Army Strong,” the “Armed Forces Medley” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

Stepping Back In Time

Mounted Cowboy Shooting Match
A bit of the old Wild West returns to Long Island at Old Bethpage Village. Experience the excitement of those days when cowboys reigned in a fast action event in which ‘cowboys’ with single action revolvers are scored on accuracy and time. Mounted contestants compete using two .45 caliber revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared ammunition.

NCMA’s Family Day
Spend a late summer day at Nassau County Museum of Art Take the kids on a docent-led walk-through of the recently opened exhibition, “Marc Chagall,” which includes a significant collection of Chagall’s hand-colored etchings of Bible stories, beginning at 1 p.m., with supervised art activities, at 1:30 p.m. Also, spend some time in NCMA’s sculpture park and enjoy a stroll through the museum’s many nature trails through the woods, ideal for family hikes.
