The owner of the property demolished the empty gas station that previously occupied that spot a few months ago, and has been fielding calls ever since from interested businesses. Merrick residents have also been keenly interested in what will end up there.
We want a good, national tenant who will pay the rent,² said North Sunrise Corporation spokesman David Silverman. ³We want high-end looking stores and we aren¹t interested in food.²
Silverman said the lot isn¹t big enough for a fast-food eatery, adding that there wouldn¹t be ample parking. ³It¹s a good spot and we¹ve gotten many calls, even a couple of banks,² he said. ³We¹d like to build the property for one tenant but we¹ll subdivide it into stores [if necessary]. And we plan to stay with the same motif, keeping the bricks on the front of the building and on the sidewalk like the [nearby] 7-Eleven has, to make the property as nice as possible.²
