Willow Road Elementary School commemorates Black History Month

Posted
Sixth graders at the Willow Road Elementary School explored the history of prominent African Americans to commemorate Black History Month. Students from Ms. Byrnes, Ms. Kieran and Mrs. Higgins class chose a prominent African American figure such as American civil rights activist Rosa Parks and researched her biography to learn how the individual left her stamp on the world.  After completing their research, students used their Chromebooks to create a postage stamp design which included information such as the individual’s profile, life accomplishments, challenges they faced and other interesting facts. Each student presented their stamp to their class and shared the information they learned. The stamps will remain displayed in the school hallway for others to admire and learn from for the remainder of February.
