After last winter's brutal snowfall, capped off with an unforgettable President's Day blow-out, not too many people were ready to say hello to the white stuff again (save, of course for the kids, who don't have to shovel and even if they did, chances are they were paid to do so). Friday's commute was slow to say the least, but most areas had been cleared by Monday morning.
While information from the Town of Hempstead was still being compiled, Nassau County reports that during the 40 hour storm, 5,000 tons of sand and salt were used, as well as 6,000 hours of overtime. The current cost for the county stands at $400,000 as of Monday, and continues to climb.
Experts believe that this winter will show above average snowfall again, but are not sure whether or not it will be worse than last year.
