A 71-year-old woman was struck and killed by a truck on Monday afternoon while trying to cross South Park Avenue at Lincoln Avenue.
Nassau County Police reported that Letitia Kopper, of Rockville Centre, was hit just after noon. Village spokewoman Julie Scully said the Rockville Centre Fire Department later responded to the scene.
The 26-year-old truck driver was making a left turn from Lincoln Avenue to travel north on South Park Avenue, according to police. As a result of the collision, the woman suffered serious head injuries and was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where she was pronounced dead by a physician.
The driver remained at the scene, police said, and the vehicle was brake and safety tested.
