It will serve to bring our hospital positive well-deserved recognition.The nursing staff of the NUMC Emergency Department, comprised of RNs, LPNs, nursing assistants, and clerks, totals 80 dedicated professionals who served 82,111 patients in 2001, including at least 50 percent of all traumas in Nassau County and western Suffolk.Turan congratulated the staff, saying "These are selfless individuals dedicated to their specialty. They maintain calm in chaos, remain focused and offer consolation when needed. These women and men have stood the test of time and we are grateful for their commitment to NUMC's patients.
Diabetes support
Franklin Hospital Medical Center's Diabetes Support Group Coordinator Ilia Scrivano, RN, announced that the next meeting of the group is set for 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 13, in the hospital's Orzac Division conference room. Franklin's Registered Dietician Michelle Conza will be the featured speaker on the topic of a diabetic approach to foods. Guest service program
Mercy Medical Center has introduced "Always Caring," a guest services program. "Our goal is to establish and maintain a program based on the Mission, Vision and Values of Mercy Medical Center. This includes providing exceptional care with integrity, compassion and professionalism to our guests and each other," said Helen Lavas, director of Guest Services. She believes the program will enrich the environment and well being of the patients, visitors and the entire Mercy staff.Service Excellence Standards have been developed to ensure a positive first impression from initial contact through completion of service. "Leaders need to be role models. Mercy's Service Excellence Standards will help our managers to teach and coach their staff. In harmony with the Mercy Mission, it is the hospital's goal to exceed patients' expectations," said Vincent DiRubbio, president and CEO of Mercy. "
