The Corporate Leadership Award was presented to Dennis Dowling, executive director of North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
Mercy teaches safe sitting
Mercy Medical Center's Department of Education and Development is sponsoring a "safe sitter" baby-sitter education program for children between the ages of 11 and 13 who are interested in developing child-care skills. Important life-saving skills and information on handling emergency situations will also be taught. The class is scheduled for July 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $35 and space is limited. Varied criteria were used to determine physician eligibility for inclusion for professional qualifications, including education, residency, board certification, fellowships and professional reputation, including hospital appointment, medical school faculty appointment, experience and disciplinary history, as well as interpersonal skills.
South Nassau names new director of materials management
South Nassau Communities Hospital has appointed Elizabeth A. Schiefke, director of Materials Management."We welcome Ms. Schiefke to the South Nassau team," said Gerard Haas, senior vice president of Finance. "Her extensive knowledge of the field and solid experience at hospitals in Queens and on Long Island make her a natural fit for this leadership position."In her role, Schiefke oversees the organization and management of the hospital's purchasing, procurement and logistical functions. The East Northport resident was director of Materials Management at New York Hospital Queens in Flushing from 2001 until this May. In 1986, she joined St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Port Jefferson as a director of Purchasing. In 1989, she became the director of the hospital's Department of Materials Management and in 1994, rose to assistant vice president of the department. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Dowling College in Oakdale and Adelphi University in Garden City, respectively.
