To take the title, Young competed on the World Cup circuit in Europe for the past several months, taking part in six races against the best teenage lugers from across the globe, including a strong field of Germans, who have traditionally been considered the world's top sliders.
Young placed first in one race, second in three, fourth in another and 10th in one, when she crashed her sled during a run. She dominated the circuit despite a broken foot that she suffered at the start of the season.
Young will remain in Europe over the next few weeks, in the hope of competing in the Junior World Cup Championship. She also hopes to earn a slot at the upcoming Olympic trials in Park City, Utah.
Robert Young, Anastasia's father, said of his daughter's second-place finish in Igles, Austria, this past weekend, "It's a tremendous day, and a tremendous performance. She has something to be very happy about. It was a good day for the United States. It was the best race of her life."
