Rabid bat found in Nassau
The Nassau County Department of Health was contacted on Aug. 15 by a resident who had been bitten on the finger by a bat while trying to remove it from the mouth of a dog. The resident was given post-exposure treatment in a hospital emergency room and the bat was sent to the state laboratory for testing. On Aug. 18, the Health Department was notified that the bat tested positive for rabies.
To protect residents from exposure to possible rabies, the Health Department recommends the following:
