This caught my attention, because I love show tunes. And the songs in this show come from Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, A Chorus Line, and many more classics. I had to find out more.
It turns out, we've got a celebrity living right here in Bellmore...and her name is Lyle Cogan. She's a family entertainer who performs live concerts, produces recordings and even owns her own record label called MalZac Music.
I called her and she sent some CDs. Well, I put on Lyle Sings Broadway For Kids and all I can say is Wow! This woman is very talented. The first song on the CD is Doe a Deer, and it sounded like Julie Andrews was singing.
Lyle's been in the music business for years. She started out singing adult music in night clubs, at resorts and opened for entertainers like Jackie Mason. I started doing family music about 13 years ago, she explains. After I had my kids, I picked up my guitar to entertain them and from that a spark grew and I spent many years developing my concerts.
She began small, doing children's birthday parties. A lot of those parties could have been featured on America's Funniest Videos, she laughs. But from those parties came her concerts and her arts and education program, which are the concerts that she brings to the school system for kids Pre-K through sixth grade.
I have different concerts, she explains. One's about the environment. One's about brotherhood and my newest one is all Broadway songs for kids
