Youth Council to host Open Mic Night on Friday: Student Life Line cards now available

Ninth through 12th graders living in Rockville Centre or the Rockville Centre school district are invited to the RVC Youth Council’s first event of the 2011-12 school year, Open Mic Night at Sky Athletic Club, 310 Merrick Road, from 9:30 to midnight this Friday, Sept. 28. Recommended admission is one non-perishable food item to be donated to the Vineyard Church Food Pantry. Contact Sara Murray at s.m926@yahoo.com for more information and to sign up to perform.

Student Life Line, a program to provide free emergency taxi rides for students that is supported by the council, just completed its review of the 2011-2012 year. In the Rockville Centre and Oceanside communities, 176 emergency taxi rides were given to students.

The program operates using sponsored cards. The cards have a number students can call if they are in an emergency to call for a taxi. Local merchants sponsor the cards.

The Rockville Centre Youth Council has been instrumental in the distribution of the Student Life Line cards. The cards can be found at all RVC Youth Council events and at many local merchants. You can also find Youth Council members distributing the cards at some school events.
