Billy Joel will open the remodeled Coliseum on April 5.

He emphasized the need for greater transparency, saying, “as one of the most transparent counties, we have learned over the years that our system can further improve.”

In May, President Obama signed an executive order to demilitarize the police, banning the Pentagon from issuing surplus military hardware — including rifles, grenade launchers and armored vehicles — to police departments nationwide. All Nassau County parks and outdoor ice rinks would close at 4 p.m. on Monday and re-open when the weather allows, announced County Executive Ed Mangano. All regularly scheduled county events on Monday evening and throughout Tuesday are cancelled, according to a county news release. The county aquatic center in East Meadow and rifle range in Uniondale are also slated to close at 4 p.m. The Nassau County Correctional Center will stop visiting hours from noon on Monday and to Thursday morning.
