AT&T donated $30,000 to the Salvation Army on May 8 to support the Salvation Army’s Covid-19 response efforts at their hubs in Freeport, Hempstead, Riverhead and East Northport.

The money would help provide 60,000 meals for more than 2,000 families at these locations.

“The Salvation Army has a proven commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, and AT&T is proud to support the organization’s Long Island hubs to ensure that Long Island families have access to free, healthy meals – and one less thing to worry about in this crisis,” said Brandon Ray, Regional Director, External & Legislative Affairs of AT&T, Long Island.

“The COVID-19 virus has quickly devastated so many residents and businesses in Freeport, which is an especially vulnerable area in Nassau County,” said Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy. “We are sincerely grateful to AT&T... and I am proud to encourage and thank the Salvation Army in their efforts to serve our local communities during this difficult time.”

The Salvation Army has served more than 96,000 individuals across the Greater New York area, with more than 300,000 meals served on Long Island since the pandemic began shutting down operations in New York on March 18.

They have also provided nearly 1 million meals through local pantries, soup kitchen, home deliveries, as well as providing emotional and spiritual support to about 8,000 people through their pastoral care team.

Charles Roberts, the Long Island County Coordinator for The Salvation Army, thanked AT&T for their support, as well as for their pledge to donate $5.5 million to The Salvation Army and other organizations around the nation working to feed first responders and healthcare workers during the pandemic.

This generous gift from AT&T will support The Salvation Army’s efforts to meet the growing needs of our neighbors,” Roberts said. “As a member of the Long Island community, we consider it a privilege to serve our neighbors during their time of need and uncertainty. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we have evolved food service delivery to ensure that immediate needs of the community are met.”
