Electrical fire damages Felton Ave. home

Posted

The Valley Stream Fire Department contained a second-story fire that broke out in a bedroom of a Felton Avenue home on Thursday around 11:30 a.m.

“It was a second-floor bedroom fire,” said First Assistant Chief Jimmy Ervolino. “It was an electrical fire. We’re not exactly sure how it started … it was most likely either a bad wire or a bad outlet.”

About 50 firefighters responded to the call, and had the blaze put out in 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The home’s owner, Angelo Lugo, said his son, Mason, was the only person home at the time.

“He was at home, sleeping, and he woke up to the smell and sight of smoke,” Lugo said. “He woke up and got out of there as quickly as possible.”

He said he did not yet know the extent of the damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
