At the Hewlett High School boys’ varsity basketball game on Feb. 8, Hoops for Hope presented SIBSPlace and Peninsula Kiwanis with a facsimile check for $2,000.
It was the 15th annual Hoops for Hope game and the goal was to raise $15,000 to benefit Hewlett-based SIBSPlace, a free program of South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside that offers support for children 5-17 who have a sibling or a parent suffering from cancer or another devastating illness. To raise the money a journal and T-shirts were sold.
State Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller (R-Atlantic Beach) presented coach Bill Dubin, who coordinates Hopes for Hope, with a citation.
Unfortunately, the Hewlett squad dropped a tough one to Division High — 60-56 — which eliminated the Bulldogs from the playoffs.
