Mill Brook Civic Association block party expands with health fair, community resources

The Mill Brook Civic Association’s Community Festival and Health Fair brought residents together Aug. 1 for an afternoon of family activities, community resources and free health services on Eastwood Lane.

The annual summer event grew this year to include health, safety and financial resource providers alongside its traditional entertainment and food offerings.

The Catholic Health Outreach Bus offered free blood pressure and glucose screenings, while the New York State Child Safety Identification Program provided free photo identification cards for children. Representatives from PSEG Long Island and National Grid were also on hand to assist residents with utility affordability programs and answer questions.

Families enjoyed a live DJ, bounce house, face painting and a Home Depot Kids Workshop. The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library promoted its summer reading program, and the Nassau County Police Department Explorer Program also participated.

Food vendors served halal rice platters, burgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers and French fries. Fully paid Mill Brook Civic Association member households received discounted meal tickets, and residents had the opportunity to join or renew their annual household membership during the festival.

The event combined the civic association’s longstanding neighborhood celebration with access to community resources, continuing its annual tradition of bringing Mill Brook residents together while expanding the services available to attendees.
