Nassau County Police are investigating a pair of robberies in Valley Stream last weekend. One was an armed robbery of a convenience store, the other a purse snatching in a supermarket parking lot.

On Aug. 28 at 1:10 a.m., during Hurricane Irene, a man entered the 7-Eleven store on Merrick Road, pulled out a gun and demanded cash. The store employee gave the robber an unknown amount of money.

The robber fled on foot. There is no description of the suspect and no one was injured.

On Aug. 26 at 9:15 a.m., a man approached a 76-year-old female who was leaving the Associated Food Store on West Merrick Road. As she was loading groceries into her car, the robber approached her from behind and attempted to take her purse.

The woman fought back and, police say, and the robber smacked her in the face, took her purse, and got into a gray car being driven by a female accomplice. They fled southbound on Clear Stream Avenue. The victim suffered small lacerations to her face but did not request medical attention.

There was no description of the suspect or the driver.

Anyone with information about either of these two robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
