Shaw Avenue hosts pajama drive for at-risk kids

Posted

This holiday season, Shaw Avenue Elementary School students once again embraced the spirit of giving by collecting 134 pairs of pajamas in the annual Scholastic Book Clubs Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. The initiative, which benefits the Pajama Program—a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing new pajamas and storybooks to at-risk children—was spearheaded by third grade teacher Darlene Sinclair.

Sinclair led the charge as students rallied to contribute new pajamas spanning from newborns to adults. The Scholastic Book Clubs program, in partnership with the Pajama Program, rewards each generous donation with a free book for the recipient child, creating a heartwarming exchange that brightens the holiday season for children in need.

Expressing gratitude for the support of the school district, Sinclair remarked, “I am very fortunate to be part of a district that wholeheartedly backs me in organizing fundraising events and extends its caring spirit to those in need.”

Shaw Avenue Elementary School’s active participation in the pajama drive underscores its dedication to instilling values of empathy and community service in its students, reinforcing the school’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom, preparing students to be Global Leaders of Tomorrow.
