Significant snowfall and frigid temps hit Long Island — Valley Stream enforces winter storm rules

Posted

With at least 8 to 12 inches of snow falling across Long Island, there is a winter storm warning in effect that was issued by the National Weather Service.

The Village of Valley Stream prohibits street parking during snowstorms and the throwing or blowing of snow into the streets. Failure to comply may result in a summons.

"I implore everyone to get and keep their vehicles off the street," Fare said. "What can be an inconvenience for you could be life or death for someone else. Fire, police and EMS need to get to emergencies."

Additionally, residents are encouraged to clear snow from vehicles parked in driveways to help maintain safety and accessibility.

Mayor Ed Fare stated that the village prepared for the storm for several days, with all department heads and supervisors meeting alongside Village Administrator Jay Hunter on Jan. 23. With two dozen plows and sanders deployed, the top priority was residents’ safety.

For any winter storm–related questions, contact the Highway Department at (516) 825-8494.  In emergencies, call 911.
