South seniors reflect, look forward

Posted

The time for seniors in Valley Stream’s three high schools to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas is still a few weeks away, but as they prepare for their big day on June 21, many seniors are reflecting on their time in high school and looking ahead to the future.
Hundreds of students will soon be pursuing challenging degrees in colleges and universities across the country. Here’s what a few graduating seniors said about their future plans and memories from their time at South High School.

Christina Casillo
Plans to study: Strategic communications, music theatre
Elementary school: Robert W. Carbonaro
Best high school memory: The musicals because usually I’m one of the oldest people in it because the grades above us didn’t really get involved as much as the younger kids.
What will you miss most about South?: I will miss the great friendships I formed over the last six-plus years.
Plans for summer: Social media intern at New York City Department of Sanitation.
College: Elon University
Activities: Falcon Report, It’s Academic, Cultural Society, musicals

Taylor Famighetti
College: Cornell University
Plans to study: Biological engineering
Elementary school: Wheeler Avenue
Best high school memory: Performing in the Cultural Society shows. World Cultural Night was June 1 and every year it’s better than the last. It’s a lot of fun.
Activities: Cultural Society, jazz and wind ensembles, marching band
What will you miss most about South?: Definitely the people and the relationships I’ve made. I’ve made so many great friends that I’m going to miss so much as I go to college and I hope to stay in touch with a lot of people.
Plans for summer: I’m going to Hershey Park for a dance competition and relaxing for my last summer before college.
