Teachers wear denim to fight cancer

Posted

Teachers in District 24 are wearing denim in support of a colleague who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Each Friday, teachers pay $5 to wear denim to school and the money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Christine Iadevaio, a teacher at the William L. Buck School, said teachers there started participating last week and will continue each Friday until the Oct. 18 Making Strides walk at Jones Beach. “Most of the staff participated,” Iadevaio said, “and if they didn’t wear denim, they still donated.”

The donation will be made in the name of the Robert W. Carbonaro School teacher who is battling breast cancer. Teachers will also be walking on Oct. 18 in honor of the late Diana Pirrone, the former assistant superintendent of District 24.
