Valley Stream schools’ remembrance 5K raises nearly $10,000 for Tunnel to Towers

The Valley Stream Central High School District brought the community together for its 25 Years of Resilience 5K, held in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The 5k raised nearly $10,000, more than tripling the district’s original fundraising goal. Proceeds supported the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides mortgage-free homes and other assistance to fallen and catastrophically injured first responders, service members and their families.

Teachers, administrators, staff members, clubs, honor societies, race coordinators and custodial staff helped make the 5k possible. More than a race, the 5K served as an opportunity to honor the lives lost.
