A local artist presented his paintings at an art show June 5-7 to raise money for the Valley Stream Historical Society.

Jim Zabatta, a longtime Valley Stream resident, began painting with acrylic paint four years ago. Since then, he has displayed his work at numerous art shows alongside other artists at locations such as Green Acres Mall and Babylon. This past show was Zabatta’s first solo show, and all proceeds from the paintings he sold went toward the Valley Stream Historical Society.

Zabatta has always been an active member of the Valley Stream community. He is the President of the Valley Stream Lions Club, a member of the Valley Stream Architectural Review Board and a member of the Friends of Bridge Board. He was happy he was able to use his artistic abilities to benefit another organization in the village.

“It’s wonderful,” Zabatta said in a previous interview with the Herald. “I love it, giving it back to Valley Stream, the place I’ve always loved. It’s a great feeling. I’m honored that they would even let me do it.”

The show took place at the Pagan-Fletcher Restoration. Attendees eagerly lined up to admire Zabatta’s paintings, which mainly consist of nature scenes, particularly of the ocean, and structures inspired by those on Long Island, such as lighthouses and bridges. At the show, Zabatta presented his “masterpiece” for the first time: a painting of an American flag with a bald eagle in front of it in honor of the country’s 250th anniversary next month.

Zabatta hoped those who came to the show enjoyed viewing his artwork, and that it evoked positive emotions.
