Before welcoming students back to school, Valley Stream District 30 welcomed 19 educators who will play an important role in helping the district's roughly 1,400 students learn, grow, and become what the district called “global leaders of tomorrow.”
Educators gathered for Valley Stream District 30's New Teacher Orientation program, where they connected with District and school leaders, learned about the community they serve, and gained access to the resources and support available throughout their professional journey.
The group includes nine first-year teachers and specialists and 10 returning educators in their second through fourth years with the District. Together, they represent classrooms and programs across Valley Stream District 30, including general education, special education, student support services, library media, music, and art.
“Our commitment to educating, inspiring, and celebrating our students begins with the people who teach and support them every day," said Superintendent Roxanne Garcia-France,” said in a news release. “These educators will help shape the experiences of our children and support their growth as learners and future global leaders. We want every teacher and specialist who joins Valley Stream District 30 to know that they are part of a supportive professional community from their very first day.”
Orientation participants met with district and building leaders and learned about instructional programs, student and family supports, technology, safety, and the many resources available to them.
They also had an opportunity to meet with representatives of the Valley Stream Teachers Association, helping new educators understand the important role of their professional union and the support available to them as members of the District community.
First-year educators participating this year are Elizabeth David, Jesse Stasio, Greta Jaye, Deirdre Carney, Jolee Benerza, Karen Hansen, Judith Address-Horowitz, Beatrice Hyppolite, and Jaclyn Nicholson.
Returning educators in their second through fourth years include Chelsea Chizever, Kristina Leone, Taylor Milata, Erin Rooney, Mardi Beck, Rachel Levit, Joeylin De Guzman, Vincent Zhao, Kerri Moloney, and Anthony Santamaria.
The district’s New Teacher Orientation continues throughout the school year, providing educators with opportunities to learn, connect, and grow alongside their colleagues.
