Hurricane Sandy

Valley Stream schools closed Tuesday

Valley Stream schools will be closed for a second straight day on Tuesday due to Hurricane Sandy. Schools in all four districts will be closed, and all other activities will be canceled.

"As the storm progresses, we know the conditions will become worse. We are concerned about the safety of our students and staff," said District 24 Superintendent Dr. Edward Fale.

Fale said decisions are being made day-by-day, and he does not know if yet if school will resume on Wednesday. That decision will come Tuesday. "It really depends on what type of damage we have from the storm."

The closings will come from the four snow days built into the school calendar. Fale said that if there is a tough winter, students might have to make up days later in the year. "This year could be challenging because we're only in the end of October," he said.
