Roadsters show off their rides at Valley Stream village car show 2023

Posted

Every Thursday from June 1st to August 31st, the classic car owners of Valley Stream get the opportunity to show off their cars at the Classic Car Show on Rockaway Avenue from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cars ranging from the early ‘40s to modern models line up for the free community event.

The Valley Stream Car Show has been a reoccurring summer event for 6 years now. It’s an amazing way to gather the community, and also gives the car enthusiasts of Nassau County a chance to take their cars out on a joy ride and connect with the other members of the classic car community.

John Hudner, 72, lives right in Valley Stream and takes his 1957 Ford Thunderbird to the car show every week.

“You know the public really likes seeing the different cars, and I really like the public that enjoy the cars,” Hudner said laughing.

It seems he’s not the only one that holds this view: men and women of all different ages come out every week to share their love for antique rides and connecting with people from all over Nassau County.

During the car show, the Nassau County Fire Department raised money for their non-profit community based Wounded Warriors operation. They usually have a DJ and last week they even had an Elvis Impersonator to announce the event and sing a couple of songs for the crowd. Every week there is a 50/50 raffle: the winner taking home half of the prize money, and the other half donated to the Wounded Warriors.

The car show held at the village’s main business district on June 15 was also a way to honor all of the incredible charity work the volunteer firefighters of Nassau County have done. Mayor Fare of Valley Stream gave an award to the Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warriors for their 20 years of dedication. Vice-Chairman Stephen Grogan of Lynbrook was there to accept the award on behalf of the organization.

The Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warriors is not affiliated with the official Wounded Warriors Project and is completely organized by the volunteer Firefighters of Nassau County. You can show support by stopping by the Valley Stream Classic Car Show, or you can go to their website ncff-oww.org to make a donation or find more fundraisers to attend.
