VSCHSD transportation deadline is April 1

Posted

The Valley Stream Central High School District offers free transportation to nonpublic schools that meet certain requirements. Applications to receive the service must be filed by April 1, according to state law. Late requests are granted only in extreme circumstances or when families move into the district after the deadline.

In order to be eligible for free transportation, the nonpublic school destinations must be more than two and less than 15 miles from home for seventh- and eighth-grade students, and more than three and less than 15 miles from home for ninth- through 12th-graders.

The transportation application can be accessed by visiting the district’s website, www.vschsd.org, and selecting the “forms, documents and publications” link under the resources menu. It must be sent by certified mail, return receipt requested, to: Transportation Clerk Pat Wilson, Valley Stream Central High School District, 1 Kent Road, Valley Stream, NY 11580-3398. For further information, please call Ms. Wilson at 872-5618.

The April 1 deadline does not apply to students with disabilities, as their transportation is arranged separately.
